Clar started his auction career at the age of 18 working for his father at
the Sam Clar Company. His first auction consisted of selling appliances. After
3 years with Sam Clar Co. he teamed with Irwin Friedman in San Francisco to
form Clar – Friedman Auctioneers. They worked together for the next
20 years handling large Industrial Auctions such as the Chevrolet Assembly
plant in Oakland, Larrabaru Bakery, Garwood Industries trucking plant in Richmond,
plus many others.
In 1972, Harvey and his wife Donna founded Harvey Clars Estate Auction Gallery in Oakland. In its first year, sales totaled $225,000. They sold the Gallery in 1994. That year sales topped $5 million.
During that time the company continued with its industrial sales conducting auctions for Frontier Village Amusement Park in San Jose, Scott Company in Oakland, San Leandro, Los Angeles and Lathrop, Walker Mechanical Contractors in Sacramento, Dillingham Nielson Construction of Napa, San Carlos Sheet Metal and many more.
Daniel Clar has worked with his father since he was twelve. From 1992 thru 2004 Daniel was the auctioneer and general manager for Robertson Leasing Corporation overseeing the United States Marshal Service vehicle seizure auctions and contracts along the US / Mexico border. In 2004 Daniel began conducting auctions with his father again. In 2006, at the age of forty five he joined the family corporation as a partner.
Harvey and Daniel have forged relationships with Ford Motor Company, General Motors and Chrysler Corporation conducting hundreds of agency auctions and appraisals. Some recent sales include: Board Ford in Whittier, Swanson Ford in Los Gatos, Empire Ford in Spokane, WA. Price Ford in Denver, Joe Kerley Lincoln Mercury / Jeep in San Jose, Silicon Valley Hummer in Santa Clara, Pasadena Ford, Bill Heard Chevrolet in Las Vegas, Downey Ford, Brett’s Ford in Dinuba, Plummer’s Buick Pontiac GMC in Lodi, Amador / Prospect Motors in Jackson, Sunset Ford in Westminster, Team Chevrolet in Pasadena, Family Nissan in Rancho Santa Margarita, Courtesy Ford in Poulsbo WA. and Hartzhiem Dodge in San Jose.
They have also worked with the US Bankruptcy Court, Small Business Administration and numerous banking institutions.
